The Team Building programme I run is a critically important feature of my Forest School programme and is designed to improve cooperation, communication and creativity in the children. We start each challenge at circle time where we discuss what it means to be able to work and play well with others and the skills we can develop to help us in this ongoing process. These skills include delegation, participation, supporting the needs of others, generating enthusiasm, talking and listening in balance, avoiding criticism and focusing on praising instead, negotiating, sharing and developing ideas together, having fun and being motivated and organised as a team. Once this discussion is complete the children are set a team building task which are all timed. Once the task is over the children return to circle time and reflect individually and as a group on how they got on. What went well? what didn’t go so well? and why? Can they recognise evidence of theirs and their teams cooperative skills in action?
